What exactly is a pre-authorization?
A pre-authorization of your credit, debit, or pre-paid card is a “hold” on funds from your bank account drawn by Clearwire when we initially take your account & payment information, but have not yet processed the actual payment for your order.
The pre-authorization guarantees that the credit, debit, or pre-paid account has the necessary available funds to pay for the services that you are purchasing.
Credit, debit, or pre-paid card pre-authorization includes a $2.00 refundable charge to verify the credit card entered is valid, plus either:
a. An estimate of costs for your 1st month’s service, plus 15% (Data-only services).
or
b. An estimate of costs for your 1st month’s service, plus 20% (For orders with Voice service)
When the actual charges are processed on the evening of your orders activation, the pre-authorization amount is replaced by the amount of the actual charge debited from your card. Any cost difference from the pre-authorization’s estimated charges to the actual charges incurred will be refunded immediately.
The following scenarios may occur due to a pre-authorization charge on a credit, debit, or pre-paid card:
The appearance of “double-billing” or multiple payments to Clearwire for charges.
Purchaser’s Bank did not decline a payment , BUT the funds are still being held.
Clearwire declined a card, but the bank statement shows a payment is pending.
