Clearwire Volunteers Lend a Hand at Bagdad Elementary

June 29th, 2010

This past weekend nearly 80 volunteers from the Clearwire Technical Support Call Center and Bagdad Elementary volunteered their time and energy to rejuvenate the 85 year old school which is located in Milton, Florida. Volunteers shoveled in new sand to freshen up the playground, planted flowers at the school’s entrance, painted, pruned, and set up 28 new flat-screen monitors and keyboards for the students.

The materials for the project cost upwards of $30,000 and were paid for by Clearwire and RockCorps, which is a movement that produces concerts where the only way in is to volunteer four hours of your time on a volunteer project. Toby Garrett of RockCorps kept everyone moving by providing the music. According to Garrett, “The idea is to put gloves on, turn the music up, have a good time and make a difference in four hours.”

Clearwire would like to thank everyone who participated or contributed to make this event possible. Photos of the event can be seen on the Pensacola Local News website.
